Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty reshapes the external appearance of the female genitalia. In women of reproductive age, there is considerable variation in the size of the labia minora. A woman may choose to undergo a labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons and/or to treat functional impairment.

Some women may feel self-conscious about the outward appearance of their genitalia.  They may view their inner labia as abnormally long, which causes them emotional or psychological distress during intimate encounters. These women choose to undergo a labiaplasty to reduce the size or protrusion of the labia.

In other instances, women with elongated labia may choose to undergo a labiaplasty to alleviate symptoms that can arise from increased labial size. These symptoms include pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse and/or while wearing tight-fitting clothing as well as interference with exercise and normal daily activities.

I do the labiaplasty procedure with topical and local anesthesia, possibly combined with mild sedation.  This operation is very well tolerated as an outpatient procedure at the Plastic Surgery Center of St. Joseph.
